Welcome to Waxwing Wines

We use traditional methods to craft limited-production Pinot Noir, Syrah,
Riesling and Rosé from cool and windy coastal vineyards.  Our winemaker
and proprietor, Scott Sisemore, brings his drive, experience, and deep
knowledge of red wine production to shape the wines from grape harvest
to bottling.

  • In July, 2014 Jon Rimmerman of Seattle's Garagiste writes about the
2012 Waxwing Spring Hill Pinot Noir:

There has never been a majority interest of the winemakers in the
Golden State that acknowledge and aspire toward the trend of
lower alcohol, transparency (in all respects) and a higher sense of
purpose (not just higher scores)...until now:

    One of the commanding artists?

Scott Sisemore and his dripping truth of what can be created on
the Sonoma Coast when you do nothing at all: Waxwing.

Scott has seen it all in the California trade.  He knew California
(and Sonoma in particular) had incredible, site-specific terroir.
There were always a few outliers and most of the “heavyweight”
producers bottled single vineyard wines but they still seemed more
concerned with inflating what should have been restrained from
the outset (including their tariff card).

Credit Scott and his fellow neo-pioneers for the gumption to
challenge what was accepted for so long – to re-create what
    required insightful and slow/steady change.

  • May, 2014: SF Chronicle wine editor, Jon Bonné, takes a look at
Rosé.  Here's what he has to say about the Waxwing "Spring Hill
Vineyard" Pinot Noir Rosé:  "From Karen and Chris London's site just
west of Petaluma, this is versatile as can be, with a mint-leaf
freshness, peach skin and bright raspberry. A lot of stuffing for a
pink Pinot."  Find the full article here.

  • The 2012 Waxwing Lester Family Vineyard Pinot Noir, Santa Cruz
Mts, was reviewed by the Prince of Pinot.  He gave the wine 94
points!  Read the review and a nice write-up on Waxwing here.

  • sólosyrah has published a glowing review of our 2012 Syrahs.  Check
    it out here.

  • Our 2012 "Spring Hill Vineyard" Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir was
reviewed in the PinotReport (93 pts):  Medium ruby color; rich, ripe
herbal cherry aromas; deep, bright, red cherry flavors with forest
floor notes; good structure and balance; long finish. Deep, earthy,
rich Pinot that is drinking well now.
